Kate Chopin’s 1899 feminist novel by the same title looms large in my list of favorite books. Edna Pontellier’s awakening takes place by the ocean, which Chopin employs as a powerful metaphor for freedom. The style of the painting is an homage to the American Impressionist painter, Childe Hassam. His seascapes have the power to transport the viewer in space and time. I feel that we should not go too long without seeing the ocean, experiencing the pull of the tides on our bodies, and hearing the waves crash against or gently kiss the shore.

20 mm glass cabochon, zinc alloy, brass finish, adjustable cuff bracelet, Alexandra N Sherman initialed on bottom
