This piece makes reference to the proverbial question: is the glass is half full or half empty? I used to view this piece as an expression of pessimism, as it was inspired by a very dear friend of mine who lost her battle with depression. However sometimes it takes time for other meanings in one’s work to become evident. I have begun to wonder why I painted such beautiful poppies within the silhouette, in the most passionate, full of life color there is, red! Perhaps the piece is about quality rather than quantity. There is hope, even when the glass seems half empty.
